Recommended Patty Anklam The Third SM: Enterprise SM

Early april I mentioned Patty Anklam’s excellent slidedeck Social Media Four SM’s . Now that as a biker I have some spare time (can not wait to expert the month of July) I have some time to skip through my archives. I really liked the post because of the concept. Great fun to reading and may be it enables u to connect and act!

The Third SM: Enterprise SM
The use of social media in the enterprise is, of course the playing field articulated by Andrew McAfee as Enterprise 2.0, first in his seminal article and then in his great book. He nicely captured the adoption of web 2.0 tools within the bounds of organizations. I think of the trajectory from the introduction of the tools on the web to the current state as follows:

1) When I said I would never write another series I was so sure this would not happen — then, this became too long…
2) Social CRM is not a technology, never will be. This is the vendor complement to The Roadmap to SCRM series I wrote before — you will need technology to deploy your strategy, this is what vendors should offer you.

As a follow up to my last (and rather old) post I wanted to say something about networks as organizations and their aesthetics. I am most of the way through reading Connected, a brilliant book on the science of social networks by Nicholas Christakis and James Fowler. Among the many insights is that we will be able to intentionally manage social networks as we understand more deeply how they operate. Given the power of networks to achieve many things I think it likely that many more organizations will seek to design themselves as networks.
