Impressed by Knowledge Management and the People CMM

Knowledge Management and the People CMM(r)

Over the last few years, The People CMM(r) Model has become a well established framework for progressively improving the capability of an organization’s workforce. Many IT companies in India have implemented it, and many other organizations across different industries are increasingly adopting People CMM – these include BPO, banks, insurance and even manufacturing.

One of the main threads in the People CMM framework is “Competency and Skill Development”. This thread covers creation of a competency framework, competency assessments and establishing means to develop skills aligned to the organization’s business goals.

Multiple processes of the framework like Competency Analysis, Competency Development, Mentoring and Competency Based Assets help organizations drive their knowledge management activities.

The presentation provides a brief overview of the People CMM framework and discusses the components of the framework that explicitly address issues and practices related to knowledge management in an organization. It also demonstrates the value of taking a prioritized approach to the implementation of various practices.

This presentation was used at a KM Community talk arranged in Mumbai on June 9, 2010

Open Leadership by Charlene LiI grabbed a copy of Open Leadership: How Social Technology Can Transform the Way You Lead (affiliate link) by Charlene Li for my business trip last week.  Gotta have something to read on the plane you know.

I enjoyed this book.  Not only is the subject matter interesting, but the way in which Li presents the material is fresh, interesting and engaging.

The main premise of the book is that in order for organizations to use social tools and technology, they need to be able to operate in a more open manner.
